The Million Dollar Education begins in 1942 when my father, the officer on the left, enlists in the V-5 Navy aviation program. He tells an amazing story of the intense training he went through to become a WWII patrol bomber pilot, of how he and his crew survived a near-tragic crash, and of flying throughout the Pacific islands and China during and after the war.

Brave Americans

It was November 1975. I was between semesters at the University of Michigan and was back home to work on the Flint Mayoral elections with my mother. It was the first time a black man was running for mayor in Flint, Michigan. He was popular in the community as a champion of civil rights and fair housing. It was a turbulent time leading up to the election.
